Currys Wii Fit

The statistics seem shocking: 44% of men and 35% of women in England are considered overweight based on their Body Mass Index (BMI). Even worse about one-fourth of British people are classified as obese – the term used to define people who are more than 30% above their healthy body weight.

Most of us know that extra body weight isn’t healthy. It can lead to heart problems, high blood pressure, diabetes, and other chronic problems that can shorten our lives and reduce the quality of the years we do have.

What most of us didn’t know is that the solution to our weight problem might come in the form of a video game.

The Weight Loss Solution

What is this solution? It’s called Wii Fit and, obviously, it’s for the Nintendo Wii console. The game combines fun activities with weight loss goals so you feel as if you’re playing while you’re really dropping pounds. Currys Wii Fit packages come in all shapes and sizes and you should check out their website for current deals.

Of course, the game wouldn’t work on just any system. The Wii is not a passive console where you mostly sit on the floor and exercise your button mashing fingers for hours. The system’s unique controllers and games encourage a level of interactivity not seen before. For example, the console shipped with a title known as Wii Sports. To play, you hold the motion-sensitive controller and actually make the same movements you would if you were playing in the real world with real equipment.

Another inspiration for Wii Fit was probably Dance Dance Revolution (DDR). The popular game included an interactive dance mat that recognized the foot movements of players who had to jump around to match the fast-paced moves on the screen. Most DDR games also included a calorie burning mode that let you basically use the system in lieu of a more traditional workout.

Wii Fit: How it Works

Wii Fit actually helps you set healthy goals for yourself. When you begin playing, you’ll complete a Body Test. The test will measure you ability to balance and your body control. It will also calculate your BMI based on the height and weight you enter. And, don’t worry, if you want to keep your statistics private you can protect them with a pin number only you know.

After the body test is complete, Wii Fit will calculate your fitness age (the game works very similarly to Brain Age, a game available for the Nintendo DS). Your job is to working on lowering that age by completing fun fitness activities every day. Those activities can include yoga, strength training, aerobics, and balance improvement techniques.

Most of the activities are completed by standing on the specially designed Wii Balance Board that comes with the game.
Availability

Because people are excited about being able to have fun while losing weight, the Wii Fit game has been very successful throughout England. Immediately after its release, one store claimed to be selling the game at a rate of 90 copies per minute.

Some shortages of the game have been reported throughout the country, but Nintendo has vowed to prevent further problems.
