Debenhams Game Console

The Debenhams game console website started selling the Nintendo Wii in December of 2006, the Nintendo Wii has taken the world by storm. Its compact design and friendly user interface and set up makes it quite popular with gamers of all ages. Studies in the UK suggest that people as old as 103 have been discovered playing games on the unit. What sets this game console apart?

What is the Wii?

The Wii has 512 mb of ram, internal flash memory, two UBS ports, Wi-Fi capability, and a bay for the SD memory card as will as for game card slot that fit Cube and N64 games. This means that users can download games from the internet, and play video games from other game consoles.

While its graphic and memory are not much different than its predecessors, this game console brings a whole new experience to gaming with its Wii wands. These nifty and new state of the art gaming devices allow for substantially different game play activity. While they are not anywhere close to actually athletic level exercise, they certainly are more physically demanding than standard game controllers.

The Wii wand allows its gamers to get in on the action. How does this work? Say you are playing tennis, or baseball games, you simply hold the controller the same way you would a tennis racket or bat and swing. Do you like to bowl? The wand allows you to emulate the same moves as a bowler and even reacts on screen much the same was a real bowling ball in the ally would based on your movements.

Another key feature that has gamers buzzing is the ability to play split screen with other players. Much like Mario kart did on N64, the screen will split visually horizontally and then display the action and stats for two game console players. Pretty neat huh?

Why Wii?

The producers of Nintendo decided to name the Wii its unique name for several various reasons. Although any one clear cut answer has seemed to rise above the rest, these are the few that have seemed to leak out to the press.

They wanted something with a universal name that is easily pronounced by people of all languages.
They wanted something that expresses “we” as in a unity among players.
The two I’s look like game console wands.
They wanted a name unique enough to stand out above its predecessors and the first name “Revolution” didn’t fit the bill.
